Toobaa is for the Strangers
"For those who believe and work righteousness is (every) blessedness (toobaa) and a beautiful place of (final) return."
(The Holy Qur'an, Surat Ar-Ra'd, 13:29)* * *
The Prophet Muhammad (s) said:
“Islam began as something strange and will revert to being something strange, so 'toobaa' to the strangers."
(Abu Hurayrah, Sahih Muslim)
Toobaa is Blessedness
"Blessedness": Tuba: an internal state of satisfaction, an inward joy which is difficult to describe in words, but which reflects itself in the life of the good man, through good and ill fortune, through good report and evil. And then, there is always the final goal to which his eyes are turned, the beautiful Home of rest in the Hereafter, after this life's struggles are over. That goal is Allah Himself.
Abdullah Yusuf Ali
Toobaa is a Tree in Paradise.
"Toobaa is the name of a tree in Paradise. Some linguists say its name was derived from the root taaba-yateebu طاب – يطيب which means ‘to be pleasant/ delightful’, as though to indicate that it will be delightful for the dwellers of Paradise to take shelter under it. The word Toobaa is of the [feminine] pattern fu’laa فعلى, and this is a superlative pattern indicating the topmost end of a thing.
Thus, Toobaa refers to the most extreme type of pleasure and delight; when one reclines and relaxes and takes shade under this tree it will be incomparable to any relaxation ever taken before – a reward awaiting the believers."

"You know you have issues when your wardrobes are full of books."

“You realise there be blueberries growing out of your head?”
Bottom:
“As they lined up for the family portrait, Dorothy realised that buying family-packs of clothes was one of her better investments.”
lol! 😀
Bottom:
`Forward the wedding march!’
Was there a doll dismay’d?
Not tho’ the matryoshka knew,
Mother had blunder’d:
Theirs not to make reply,
Theirs not to reason why,
Theirs but to do & cry,
Into the valley of Nests
Rode the three younglings hehe 😀
I feel irresitably tempted to pull those blueberries off the girls hair. Keep me away! :[
There is a saying…
“I may not agree with you having blueberries in your hair… but I will defend to the death your right to have them there.”
Give or take a few words.
😛
😀
Blooming liberals spoil all the fun 😛
Noooooo!!! Call me anything you like…not a liberal!!!
*runs away, sobbing*
😛
For Toobaa and Oz…
http://www.ijtema.net/photo-contest/
We’re all entering, right? RIGHT? 😀
Erm… I don’t understand the prize…
But OK! 😀
As the great AbuGG once said,
‘Might aswell.’
Yay! 😀
I think the winner/s get some pretty paintings. Get to work! Please put them on here (Oz, there) too, so that I might be first to catch a glimpse. 😀
I’m probably going to submit the pic that I use for the front page of my website… How about you guys? 😀
Tell us, Mr Oz, why you believe your picture represents Hope.
I’ll leave it to the professionals!
What better exemplifies hope, than children, about to embark on the great journey of life?!
If that explanation seems short, it’s because I can’t think of any other reason this picture has anything to with hope…
I think it’s as succinct as it is convincing lol. Well done. 😀
I’m thinking I may need to take something new… I have one picture of a phenomenal quantity of yellow spiders enclustered around an object that cannot be seen. I assume they are devouring something but it might be that they are plotting something. The latter, represents hope. Also, they are atop a green green green leaf.
*, there is no way I’m submitting something if you’re not.
You’re both submitting SOMETHING, end of.
Even if it is just a passport photo.
😛
Hm… What if there’s a aracnaphobic person on the panel? I am slightly intrigued be it in a fearful kind of way- they plan to over-throw the human world…? lol The poor devoured thing.
It’s not my thing at alllllll or I would! And I’ve lost the one pic that I might have submitted, so it’s not meant to be 😀
Please submit! 😀
@Toobaa: I like that vision of hope…like, the hope a spider has, of catching its prey!
@*: Take another photo! Then attribute a random meaning of hope to it, like I (and possibly Toobaa) did… Thats where all the cool kids are at!
I’ll give it some thought 😀
Yay! Found my tripod! Now for the brainstorm… An upward looking image blooming with 2 or 3 colours but no flowers. Definitely no flowers. Come, *!
Do either of you use Flickr?
No… pros and cons?
Pro’s: Easy to use, fast way to share pics, comment on others, get feedback, join similarly-minded groups (waaay before Facebook), largest photo community, tutorials, etc.
Cons: *deafening silence*
😀
Cons: You have to register and sign in
That’s not a con. Thats a questionable pro!
😛
Lol, I suppose so.
19 days to go and the winner gets to spend a day with Peter Sanders!
a) I have yet to see EITHER of your pics!
b) Who is P. Sanders?
c) My head hurts… this may or may not be related to the above two points.
:O
Peter Sanders!! 😀 We (Khayaal Theatre Company) did our preview of ‘Coffee’ at his exhibition launch at the Rich Mix! An awe inspiring aura has he. Noor galore. MashaAllah. Ok I’m doing my picture tomorrow.
Ok, Oz.
Water for your headache.
O0oh… I have an idea. My nephew bought a Venom/Spiderman costume today. He’s tiny but the costume has fake muscles in it and he looks adorable. I like that children are our future heroes. HOPE!
Toobaa, I like it! I can’t seem to think of anything hopeful that doesn’t have children in it. And I second the water suggestion@ Oz.
I went to the Sanders exhibition at the RichMix! The ‘Bride’ picture was one of a friend from work on her wedding day, lol. Shame I missed ‘Coffee’, although I saw some pics.
Oz: I second that too. Toobaa, chop-chop, missy! 😀
Also, http://www.petersanders.co.uk/
5 days…
I won’t blink first…I have the photo ready to go!
You two?
😛
I can’t find my camera…
Come along now! I’ve waited long enough for this 😀
Submitted! Photo can be found at:
And I added the following text:
This photo was taken in Swat, Northern Pakistan during a holiday there. It was a spur-of-the-moment photo (parlty inspired by the National Geographic cover of the Afghan girl), as it just seemed to capture the two small boys in a brilliant perspective. It was taken with a Canon EOS400D SLR. During post-processing, colour was removed, and contrast increased to give a starker, more impactful feel to the image.
I await your moves, * and Toobaa.
😀
Yes, even the spelling mistake was submitted. 😦
They’re artists, don’t worry (hehe).
Awesome! 😀 That just leaves me… *shifts nervously from foot to foot* … Be right back!!!
Lol, on your toes,missy.
Off the topic completely:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2008/feb/27/2
I would have been so squished if my bed was on the other side of my bookshelves, lol.
Oh! There was a girl on the bridge this morning recounting something to her friend about her wardrobe shaking madly and I wondered what on earth she was going on about! Goodness! I had no idea! Must double check the placement of objects in my room when I go home! Are you ok, Poppet?
Yes, thank you. Did you find anything had moved? lol. My brother dreamt there was an earthquake, but no one else woke in the house except I, who stuttered out all the prayers I could think of before I audaciously poked my head under the bed to confront the huge and hideous monster that threw my beloved books to the floor, lol. 😀
Wow…my dad and sister claimed last night to have felt some rumblings, but I told them it was probably just wind, and dismissed it as coincidental. Next morning, it’s on the news, and I’m kicking myself for not having felt it 😦
Lol @ Toobaa going home, and everythings EXACTLY where it normally is, but upside down 😀
*, that’s probably the most violent effect of the tremor I’ve heard from anyone today, are you on the fault line? :O
Oz, at least you didn’t have to face any Demons lol. Lots of people starting believing in poltergeists apparently, until they read the news. Don’t earthquakes come with after-shocks normally? Lol, maybe Toobaa’s stressed enough to not have noticed. We’ll wait and see.
Nowhere near Lincolnshire, but my (loft) bed swayed for a good few seconds after the initial jolt. I have my shelves piled too high too, obviously 😀
Hmm.. it looks like somebody’s just been in my room… and everything IS a few cm out… Ok, not really.
Heeheee at poltergeists!!!
Ahhh, she is beautiful! All set then 😀
Lol, I would really have been worried if you could see such a difference.
Cool photo! I like the title too 😀
*, that just leaves you.
Toobaa, if everything seems out of place by a few cm, try moving a few cm to the right/left… 😉 … And poltergeists or not, still wish I’d felt it. 😦
How inattentive of you, Oz! I posted it, up there 😀
So you did! I was looking for it in the Flickr pool…
Now, we wait.
😀
Oops, I forgot to submit it 😐 hehe.
Now, we wait.
Now, we wait.
Are we holding our breath?
Is breath a countable or mass noun?
“Is breath a countable or mass noun?”
Discuss.
**tries to snap out of essay writing revision mode**
Lol, keep it up, not long ’til summer, insha’Allaah.
Only 12 more days of March, in which they can announce the winner! But imagine if they never did announce a winner?
That’d be hilarious. 😀
8…
Ok, mere hours left.
And I’m starting to think it might not be so hilarious if they didn’t announce a winnah. In fact, it may be downright annoying.
Lol – I’ve had this happen before – did I say?
You did say! You foresaw the whole thing. 😦
Both of your pretty pictures are up on the flickr pool thingy. Beautiful!
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/related_features/young_photographer/article3583642.ece
You know you’re old when you have to check the upper age limit for “Young Photographer” competitions. Thankfully, I’m inside it still!
I’m going to go to Egypt and take some ridiculously powerful photo that will become a rallying cry for anarchists everywhere…
What a chilling observation to share, lol.
I look forward to seeing them, Insha’Allaah. If you get any of the sky: http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/multimedia/gallery/submission_help.shtml
Bon voyage!
Cool, we got icons! 😀
Bored at work, so I thought I’d hang out here.
o0o0o0o0o! That’s purdy!
Btw Oz… where’s that ‘ridiculously powerful photo that will become a rallying cry for anarchists everywhere…’?! 😀
*Stomps feet and chants*
or if not on FB:
😀
Where was this taken?
It makes me crave chocolate covered peanuts and reminds me of Pakeezah all at the same time. Am I alone in my recollections of a pre-historic age?
It’s a notoriously touristy part of Sharm-el-Sheikh, where they tried to impress us with uninteresting “sound and light” shows and overpriced food. But the complex looks very nice at night! I’ll link to a couple more (less dramatic) pics of the place when I get home.
Sadly, I’m not a big fan of chocolate or peanuts. 😦
Few more Egypt pics!

*shamelessly spamming*
:$
Lovely!
I like ‘Muhammad Ali Mosque’ the most.
Really? Why?! I put that up to make the rest look better!
*in other news, kudos for the BioShock quote*
😀
Yes, it’s simple yet grand.
Lol, I’ve not played the game, but I thought it was clever in its references.
It’s SO cool, partly inspired by 1984… If you play one game, play that one.
@Toobaa: Feel like posting again? 😛
I don’t like it, it’s too dark; the man’s screams and grunts are too realistic and the killing of little girls (it doesn’t matter that they’re clones) makes it all the more horrible.
It is clever though I must say.
Yes, I agree, we need an update Toobaa.
